A Guide to Spring Denim Fashion
As the days get longer and the flowers begin to bloom, it's time to refresh our wardrobes with the perfect blend of style and comfort. One staple that seamlessly transitions from winter to spring is denim. This season, let's explore the vibrant world of spring denim and discover how to embrace the blossoms in style.
1. Wide-Leg: Bid farewell to the skinny jeans and welcome the wide-leg trend this spring. Wide-leg denim not only provides a breezy and comfortable fit but also exudes a relaxed and effortlessly chic vibe.
Here are some tips on how to rock wide-leg jeans with flair:
Tuck in a Fitted Top:
- Balance the volume of wide-leg jeans by tucking in a fitted top. This creates a well-defined waistline and accentuates the flared silhouette of the pants.
Belt It Up:
- Define your waist further by adding a stylish belt. A statement belt not only adds a touch of personality but also provides structure to your outfit.
Heels for Height:
- Wide-leg jeans have a lengthening effect, and wearing heels enhances this quality. Whether it's platform heels, wedges, or classic pumps, the added height helps create a long and lean line, especially when the jeans graze the top of your shoes.
Play with Layers:
- Experiment with layering to add depth and interest to your outfit. A tailored blazer, a cozy cardigan, or a stylish jacket can elevate the look of wide-leg jeans, making them suitable for various occasions.
Monochrome Elegance:
- Opt for a monochromatic outfit by pairing your wide-leg jeans with a top in a similar hue. This creates a sleek and sophisticated look, emphasizing the silhouette of the jeans without distractions.
Accessorize Thoughtfully:
- Consider adding accessories like statement earrings, a chic handbag, or a wide-brimmed hat to complete your wide-leg jeans ensemble. Accessories can elevate your look and showcase your personal style.
Casual Cool with Graphic Tees:
- For a relaxed and casual vibe, pair your wide-leg jeans with a graphic tee. This effortlessly cool combination is perfect for a laid-back day out.
Remember, the key to styling wide-leg jeans is to balance the proportions, define the waist, and have fun experimenting with different tops, shoes, and accessories. Let your personal style shine through, and embrace the comfort and versatility of this timeless silhouette.
2. Flare Jeans: Step into the spotlight with the resurgence of a timeless classic – flare jeans. This nostalgic trend has made a triumphant return. The beauty of flare jeans lies in their ability to effortlessly elongate the legs and create a slimmer silhouette. So, kick out those hems and make a bold statement – the flare era is here to stay!
Here are some tips on how to style flare jeans for your lifestyle:
Fitted Tops for Balance:
- Since flare jeans widen at the bottom, balance the silhouette by pairing them with a fitted top. Tucking in a snug blouse, a tucked-in tee, or a bodysuit helps highlight your waist and complements the flared leg.
Wedge Shoes or Heels:
- The added height not only complements the flared leg but also elongates your silhouette for a stylish and confident appearance.
Layer with Denim Jackets:
- Create a denim-on-denim look by layering flare jeans with a classic denim jacket. Opt for contrasting washes for a modern twist or keep it cohesive with similar shades.
Belt It Up:
- Define your waist and add a touch of interest by accessorizing with a statement belt.
Experiment with Prints:
- Play with patterns and prints to add a touch of excitement to your outfit. Striped or floral tops can complement the flared silhouette and create visual interest in your overall look.
Accessorize Wisely:
- Elevate your flare jeans outfit with carefully chosen accessories. Statement earrings, a stylish handbag, or oversized sunglasses can add a touch of glamor without overpowering the retro charm.
Remember, the key to styling flare jeans is finding the right balance between the fitted and flared elements. Enjoy experimenting with different combinations to find the perfect ensemble that suits your taste and mood.
3. Fancy Pants: This category covers all the fun, non-traditional denim out there, and this might just be our favorite category yet. Be anything but boring with these fun colors and styles. Colored denim has emerged as a vibrant and expressive trend, injecting a playful dose of personality into the world of fashion. No matter the color, this trend provides a refreshing twist to classic denim. Embellished jeans elevate your denim from an everyday outfit to a standout fashion statement. This trend offers a perfect blend of edginess and sophistication, allowing you to express your unique style.
Here are some tips on how to rock embellished and colored jeans:
Choose Complimentary Accessories:
- Opt for accessories that enhance rather than compete with the embellishments. A sleek pair of ankle boots or understated heels can add a touch of sophistication without overshadowing the details on your jeans. Keep jewelry minimal to maintain a cohesive and polished look.
Mix Textures and Patterns:
- Experiment with different textures and patterns to create an interesting contrast. A textured jacket or a patterned cardigan can complement the embellishments and colors while adding depth to your overall outfit. Just ensure that the additional elements don't clash with the details on your jeans.
Play with Proportions:
- Consider the silhouette of your embellished jeans when selecting the rest of your outfit. If the jeans are flared or wide-leg, a fitted top can balance the proportions.
Casual or Dressy, Take Your Pick:
- Embellished and colored jeans can be versatile, suitable for both casual and dressy occasions. For a casual look, pair them with a slouchy sweater or a denim jacket. To elevate the ensemble for a more formal setting, a tailored blazer or a chic blouse can do wonders.
Confidence is Key:
- Ultimately, the key to pulling off embellished or colored jeans is confidence. Rock your unique style with pride, and let your outfit reflect your personality. Embrace the boldness and wear them with confidence to make a memorable fashion statement.
4. Cropped Flare Jeans: Cropped flare jeans offers a fresh and modern take on the classic flare silhouette. With a shortened length that typically hits just above the ankle, these jeans showcase a playful flair while accentuating your footwear. Perfect for showcasing your favorite pair of heels or ankle boots, cropped flare jeans provide a versatile canvas for both casual and more polished looks.
Here are some tips to help you rock this chic and modern look:
Fitted or Tucked-In Tops:
- Since cropped flare jeans draw attention to the ankles, balance the silhouette by opting for fitted tops or tucking in your blouse. This helps maintain a streamlined look and highlights the playful flare at the bottom.
Showcase the Shoes:
- Take advantage of the cropped length to showcase your favorite footwear. Whether it's heeled ankle boots, stylish mules, or statement sneakers, the exposed ankle creates an opportunity to make your shoes a focal point of the outfit.
Experiment with Patterns and Textures:
- Have fun experimenting with patterns and textures in your tops. Striped or patterned tops can add visual interest, while textured fabrics like lace or knit can contribute to a stylish and textured look.
Casual Vibes with Graphic Tees:
- For a laid-back and casual look, pair your cropped flare jeans with a graphic tee. This effortless combination exudes a cool and relaxed vibe, perfect for everyday wear.
Off-Shoulder or Statement Tops:
- Elevate your outfit by choosing statement tops, such as off-shoulder blouses or tops with unique details. These pieces add a touch of drama and sophistication to the playful silhouette of cropped flare jeans.
Accessorize with Simplicity:
- Complete your look with carefully chosen accessories. Simple gold earrings and a couple layering necklaces can enhance the overall aesthetic of your outfit without overwhelming the cropped flare style.
Remember, the key to styling cropped flare jeans lies in experimenting with different combinations to find what suits your personal style. Whether you're aiming for a casual, polished, or eclectic look, these versatile jeans offer a myriad of styling possibilities.

I Quit My Job
In less than 2 months, I will be doing something I never thought possible, I will be working 100% with and for On the Go Boutique. This has been a silent dream in my head since Anna and I first started talking about opening our social media based boutique 6 years ago, and something we have both worked very hard for over the years. There have been times in years past where Anna and I thought, "what if it could be so much more", and NOW, well, now it's actually happening. In the fall of 2020, we talked about what we had experienced with going through the pandemic, along with the rest of the world. We talked about how that experience affected our lives, and what we really wanted to spend our time focused on. Obviously family is number one, but a close second was, we really wanted to dive head first into growing On the Go Boutique. We decided to take the plunge of opening a physical location, and months later, and with the help of Anna and her husband and his construction company, we opened our brick and mortar location in Springfield, IL in August 2021. We now have a store manager, a sales team, and a back of the house shipping team that we couldn't survive without.
I have been working in marketing and supply chain logistics for 15 years for another company, in another industry, and what I didn't realize is that business career helped me to grow and learn so many skills that actually lend themselves to OUR clothing business. I didn't see the synergies in the two businesses until about a year ago, but now I can't "unsee" it, and I know this is the path I was meant to be on. I am absolutely elated to be able to focus, for the first time in 6 years, solely on all things On the Go Boutique. I can't wait to bring you new handmade jewelry, new blog posts, new recipes, new workouts, new makeup, new shoes, new outfits, new EVERYTHING! This is only the beginning and I. Can't. Wait. So THANK YOU to everyone who has been following the journey Anna and I have been on over the years, and for all of your support. We can't wait for you to see what's next, I have a feeling the best is yet to come.
I am not sure why it took me to long to come to the conclusion that this was really my next step, but I wanted to share a video from Steve Harvey where he so eloquently states, "Jump", sometimes you just need a little push, so hopefully this video helps you to feel ready for your next step in life, whatever that may be.

Behind the store
Add to our ever growing list of ways we are hoping to connect with you all more, cue On the Go Blog! Here you will find more info on who we are, what we are wearing, eating, drinking, and mostly importantly, what we are shopping for.
First, let's talk about how we got here...hop aboard our imaginary time machine and let's travel back to 1988, Kindergarten, a time when LA Gear sneakers, acid wash jeans, and tons of high waisted pants donned the pages of the Sears catalog ( you know you remember the Sears catalog, that thing had just about everything, I could ever dream of buying in it! ) that is where Anna and I first met, but it wasn't until five years later that we became life long friends. In fifth grade we bonded over our love of tumbling, matching bodysuits and scrunchies, and boys( maybe me a bit more than Anna ). Fun fact, to this day Anna can still do a back handspring.
Over the middle and high school years we survived countless boyfriends, heartbreaks, sleepovers, school dances, fashion hits and misses ( I prob had a few more misses than Anna ) and one very memorable trip to Cowden, IL where Anna's dad made me bait a cricket on a fishing hook, followed by me getting a splinter in my toe and Anna's dad cutting it out with a pocket knife. Did I mention, I have only been to Cowden, IL once? In 2001, the year Britney wore a yellow snake during her performance at the MTV VMA's ( seriously FREE Britney! ), Anna and I started college together. We went to Southern Illinois University, where you could mostly catch us wearing either hoodies to class or a new outfit from Express. We also spent many a night at the now closed, Pinch Penny Pub. After graduating, Anna followed love to Springfield, IL and became a teacher, and I moved to St Louis, MO and started working in the renewable fuels industry. In 2010, we both became mothers for the first time, we even randomly had the same due date for our boys, but they ended up being born 5 days apart.
Fast forward to 2016, the year choker necklaces made a comeback, and Rianna debuted faux fur sandals, Anna, still in Springfield, IL and me, now in Nashville, TN, came up with the idea of opening our OWN online boutique. We both knew we were starting something BIG, but I don't think either one of us could have dreamed where we would be today. This year we are opening our FIRST brick and mortar location at 3063 Hamlin Pkwy, Springfield, IL 62711 ( come by and see us in August ), AND we are launching our blog to take you all along our journey of life moving forward.
Whether you have been with us since we started On the Go Boutique, or found us sometime in the last few years THANK YOU! We wouldn't be here without you! Stay tuned...
